May 31, 2021

The Meyer and the Collins stationary sofas are both mentioned among the best-selling sofas and sectionals at La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston.

With clean lines, wide arms, and deep seating, the Meyer and Collins products share many similarities in style and features.

In fact, Racha, a design consultant at La-Z-Boy Hunt Club, says that clients often have a hard time deciding between these two options. At first glance, it can be difficult to pinpoint the key differences that will determine which choice is the better option for you.

Although the Meyer and Collins do share notable similarities, they are each unique in their own way and have something different to offer.

This article will compare the Meyer and Collins furniture family at La-Z-Boy by breaking down their key similarities and differences. By the end of the article, you will be clear on whether you prefer the Meyers or Collins for your home.

The Meyer furniture family has a clean, modern look with nice wide arms and a deep seating area. Welt detailing and updated track arms enhance the crisp yet casual look of the box border seats and backs. Decorative wood legs also add to the appeal.

Comfort is not forgotten in the Meyer furniture. It’s seats are wide enough to lie down on, perfect for napping and cuddling. You effortlessly melt into the furniture when you sit down.

Similarly, the Collins furniture family is considered some of the most transitional pieces on the floor. Collins is among the Comfortably Casual style at La-Z-Boy, where contemporary and traditional styles collide.

The flat-front rounded arms on the Collins are over-scaled providing a clean and updated version of the traditional round arm. With simple lines, welt trim, and put-together tailoring, it is a style that looks good and feels better. Sink into the box seat cushions and rest your head on the plush arms.

Key Similarities

When it comes to size, the Meyer and Collins are almost identical in dimensions, differing by 1 to 2 inches at most.

Both the Meyer and Collins feature La-Z-Boy® Premier construction with quality-crafted frames consisting of kiln-dried hardwood and furniture-grade laminates. They are engineered for lasting durability.

Moreover, the Meyer and Collins include ComfortCore seat cushions with seven layers of zoned cushion technology for added comfort and firmness. The cushions also feature self-healing zippers, a non-skid tailor-made decking, and double-blown fibre fill.

Each option comes with its own 18-inch accent pillows for added comfort and style. Not to mention, the Meyer and Collins products are both customizable with a variety of fabric and leather cover options to choose from.

Key Differences

According to Racha, the most significant difference between the look of the Meyer and Collins is the shape of their arms. The Meyer furniture features a square and flat arm while the Collins furniture features a more round, plush-looking arm.

With this, the Meyer products appear more modern and contemporary while the Collins products maintain a more classic and traditional look.

Moreover, although both options have legs, the decorative legs on the Meyer are much more visible than the legs on the Collins.

One notable difference to mention is that the Meyer furniture is considered to be the “big sister” of the Kennedy furniture. Both the Meyer and Kennedy are very similar in style and form, but the Kennedy furniture is more compact in size.

If someone likes the look of the Meyer, but needs something smaller to fit in an apartment or small living space, a recommendable substitute is the Kennedy furniture family.

Alternatively, the Collins furniture does not have a comparable furniture family in a different size scale.
